PREPARATION BEFORE MASS

The preparation for the Holy Mass (Saturday night & Sunday morning) is as follows:

1) Lay Ministry Medallions

2) Lights: Turn on lights—all of them

3) Microphone: Turn on the microphone.

4) Candles: Light 10 minutes before Mass.

5) Check the Credence Table:

Check the credence table to ensure it is ready for Mass. There should be:

1. Father’s Chalice with purificator, Plate for hosts (with large Host for consecration), corporal (white square)
2. Tabernacle key (note the key should be inserted in the tabernacle before Mass
3. 2 EMHC Cups with purificators
4. 1 patten with small hosts for concretion at the Mass
5. 1 bowl with extra hosts (if needed)  
6. 1 bowl for washing the hands,
7. 1 towel
8. Wine carafe
9. Water carafe
10. Lighter

6) Set up the Books:

Bring the following books to ambo making sure they are set up for the proper readings/dates with the ribbon:

1. Lectionary
2. Roman Missal and place it on stand on the altar
3. Book of Gospels on the counter in the sacristy. (This will be carried in at the start of Mass by the lector)

7) Bells

PREPARATION AFTER MASS

1) Lay Ministry Medallions: Return medallions to the bulletin board,

2) Microphone: Turn off.

3) Return all the Books:

1. After the English Saturday Vigil Mass, set 3 books on the counter for use on Sunday morning. Make sure they are marked with ribbon for the proper starting point
2. After the English Sunday morning Mass, set the books in the cupboard

4) Clear or reset the Credence Table: If there will be another Mass this day, set up the table again for Father.

Make sure of the following:

1. Chalice and cups are clean and streak-free. You may have to take them to the sacristy and check them under the lights by the sink. Once clean, they should be returned to the credence table.
2. Purificators-return the used purificators to the sacristy, hanging them on the laundry bin on the counter. Bring 3 fresh purificators to the credence table.
3. Lavora bowl-dry the bowl with the used towel. Leave the bowl. Bring the used towel to the: sacristy and hang on the laundry bin on the counter.
4. Bring a fresh towel to the credence table.
5. Bring the water carafe to the sacristy, fill with water and return the carafe to the credence table
6. Bring the wine carafe to the sacristy , fill with wine and return the carafe to the credence table.
7. Bring a new large host and place on the patten of Father’s chalice.
8. Fill the other patten with new hosts are needed for the next Mass. (If not certain, check with Father).
9. Lighter-Leave on the credence table.
10. If you feel comfortable, place the Spanish books for the upcoming Mass in the same locations from which the English books were. If not, leave for Father to check and set out.

• Books: Upper cupboards, north
• Wine Normal Location: refrigerator
  • Wine Overstock: Upper cupboard, NE corner?
• Cloths: 3 drawers, east (NE corner)
• Candles: lower cupboard, east, below cloth drawers.
• Hosts: refrigerator
